This provision is good

n The childminder has made effective improvements since the last inspection. A strong focus has been placed on improving her knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures. This has improved the safety and care of the children. n The childminder develops children's language and communication skills effectively. She encourages children to repeat words clearly and teaches them new vocabulary. For example, she asks children if they can name the animals on a puzzle. Children name the ones they know and the childminder helps them to say the new words correctly. n The childminder is considerate and thoughtful and provides children with good levels of emotional security. n The childminder uses resources from the local community well, to support children's physical development. She offers regular trips to local farms, toddler groups and parks, providing fun opportunities for children to experience other ways of life and develop

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Since the last inspection, the childminder has made a number of changes to develop her provision. For example, she has identified how to minimise risks ensuring her home is safe and secure at all times. The childminder undertakes regular safeguarding training to ensure her knowledge is current. She understands her responsibilities to protect children from harm. The childminder can confidently identify the signs that a child may be at risk from extreme views. Safeguarding is effective. Recently, the childminder has made improvements to raise the quality of her service. She seeks advice from local authority advisers and acts on recommendations made by other childcare professionals. The childminder gains an accurate picture of children's abilities and routines when they first attend her setting. This enables her to guide and support their progress right from the beginning. The childminder has robust policies in place to keep children safe and she

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has greatly improved her teaching since the last inspection. She completes the required written summary of children's progress when they are aged two years and this is shared with parents. The childminder has attended training to support her with the observation, planning and assessment of children. Overall, she now plans for children's individual learning well. Children concentrate well and persevere to solve practical problems, such as how to move puzzle pieces around so they will fit securely. They are confident in their choice of activities and toys.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder takes children out into the local community and they learn about people who are different from themselves. She teaches children to respect other people and to socialise in groups. She has improved the range of resources to support children to learn about their own and different cultures. Children are beginning to learn about positive behaviour and the impact of their actions on others. The childminder has a calm and consistent approach, which allows children to learn from a positive example. As a result, children offer each other support and kindness.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points in learning. They are well prepared for their next stages of learning and their move on to school. Children develop good mathematical knowledge. They count, recognise colours and compare sizes. Children follow good hygiene routines, such as washing their own hands before eating and after messy activities.
