n Staff carry out daily checks to identify potential hazards and minimise risks to children. The manager deploys staff well to ensure that children are supervised at all times. n Children are happy and are keen to join in the activities at the club. They are greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the friendly staff, with whom they develop close relationships. Staff provide regular praise for children's efforts and achievements. They display children's work on the walls in the club. This helps to raise children's sense of self-value. n Staff provide clear and consistent guidance for children about what is acceptable behaviour. Children behave well and demonstrate good social skills. They are polite and respectful to adults and each other. n Overall, self-evaluation is effective. The manager seeks the views of staff, parents and children to help her identify aspects of the provision to develop further.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All staff have a secure understanding of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. They know the procedures to follow if they have any concerns about the welfare of a child. Leaders have rigorous recruitment and vetting procedures in place, along with comprehensive induction processes, to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children. The manager has effective systems in place to support staff to extend their skills and knowledge.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-resourced environment is organised to help children make choices in their play. Staff use their training and skills to provide a good variety of experiences for children, to develop their creativity and imagination and reflect their own ideas, overall. Children use tools for a purpose as they design and create a variety of different bugs and insects using malleable materials. Staff have very effective partnerships with schools that children attend. They plan activities that reinforce and complement children's learning. For example, staff plan activities which link to the history of the 'Titanic', a topic children are studying in school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children talk enthusiastically about how much they enjoy attending the club. They comment 'I like having fun with my friends' and 'It's fun here'. They are clear about the rules of the club. They say these include 'be kind to each other' and 'use our manners'. Staff are enthusiastic and dedicated to ensuring children enjoy their time at the club. They focus well on developing children's social skills. Children's behaviour is good. They are polite and respectful of each other. Staff encourage children to be independent. For example, children take responsibility for hanging up their own bags and coats when they arrive in club. Staff support children to learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, children help to carry out risk assessments of the activities they take part in, such as football. Children have a good knowledge of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. For example, they know they need to wash their hands when they arrive at the club, in
