Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements policies and procedures well. For example, she effectively identifies any risks in the environment and promptly addresses these, to help ensure children play safely. She keeps up to date with child protection training and has a good understanding of the procedure to follow should she have a concern about a child's welfare. Partnerships with parents and carers are good. The childminder gathers essential information about children's developmental starting points. There is an effective two-way flow of information to support and strengthen children's learning and development. The childminder follows children's familiar home routines to provide consistency in their care. The childminder regularly uses online research to build on her knowledge and to plan and provide children with exciting creative craft ideas.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely monitors children's individual progress. This helps her to identify any gaps in their development quickly. For example, she provides a range of puzzles, some simple and some more difficult. She encourages children to try and fit the pieces and complete the picture. The childminder gives lots of praise and encouragement. As a result, children concentrate, persevere and are very pleased with their success. The childminder plans stimulating experiences that link well to children's interests. For example, a visit to a large wildlife sanctuary provides children with an exciting time with a range of exotic birds. The childminder enthusiastically recounts the visit and children listen with interest and understanding. Young children remember the parrot's squawks and happily imitate the sound.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's good behaviour well. She helps children to learn about sharing resources and taking turns in their play. As a result, children are polite and behave well. The childminder supports children to manage their own self-care and follow good hygiene routines. She gives gentle guidance to support young children's physical development. For example, children soon learn how to successfully climb and sit on their own comfy armchair, safely by themselves. Children develop a good understanding of the importance of eating a balanced diet and enjoy a wide range of healthy foods throughout the day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain a range of skills that support them well for future learning and the eventual move on to school. Young children show a curiosity in how things work. For example, they turn, slide and press parts of toys to make different sounds, understanding that their movements cause an effect. Children listen well and understand simple instructions. They willingly take part in tidying away toys when they have finished their play.
