Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of child protection matters. She is aware of the local procedures that she must follow if she were to be concerned about a child's welfare. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is keen and enthusiastic about developing her skills and knowledge. She reflects positively on how recent training has helped her to develop her practice. For instance, a course on healthy cooking has enabled her to meet the different dietary needs of the children in her care. The childminder recognises the importance of working in partnership with children's parents. Parents are well informed about their children's learning, and say that they are happy with the care that their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The qualified and experienced childminder knows the children well. She uses effective methods to plan for children's individual learning and to provide interesting activities that capture children's attention. For example, children are keen to explore as they eagerly use scoops to measure and pour rice. The childminder uses her good partnerships with children's parents well. She gains a good understanding of children's needs when they first attend her setting. For example, she gathers information about children's interests and development to help her to meet their needs. The childminder interacts well with children. She uses their interests effectively to support their learning. For example, older children concentrate as they develop their coordination using diggers to lift and move the rice. Younger children develop the muscles in their hands as they learn to roll out and flatten dough.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with opportunities to be sociable and to learn about people from backgrounds different to their own. For instance, children take part in groups and activities in the community, where they mix with other children and adults. Children behave well. The childminder helps children to learn to manage their feelings and behaviour appropriately. For instance, she reminds children that they need to share and play together as they eagerly try to play with the rice and diggers.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills that will support them with the next stage of their learning and the eventual move on to school. For instance, the youngest children are motivated and keen to explore. They develop good physical skills and demonstrate confidence as they crawl and stand to explore the activities available to them. Older children develop a love of literacy. They stay focused and engaged as the childminder reads their favourite stories.
