p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder is confident in her understanding of the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern about the welfare of a child in her care. She knows the procedure to follow if she has any concerns. She has made herself aware of how to identify any children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or behaviours. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder constantly updates and builds on her professional skills and knowledge. She uses her learning effectively, for example, to support children who speak English as an additional language.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder confidently supports all areas of children's learning. She works effectively with other professionals, for instance, to support children's speech and language skills. Children enjoy a wide variety of activities that teach them about the natural world. For example, they talk delightedly about bulbs and flowers they have planted. Children benefit from exploratory experiences and spontaneously experiment as they pour sand into water. Their physical skills develop as they run after balls, swing and slide. Children explore a wide range of books, including those they use to find information as well as stories.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy learning new skills which support them in carrying out simple acts of self- care. For example, they proudly practise putting on their own coats and shoes. Children understand why they need to wash their hands after activities and playing in the garden. They learn to keep themselves healthy and well. The childminder constantly risk assesses and carefully teaches children how to manage their own risks and keep themselves safe. Children enjoy exploring their local area on their regular walks to local woods and green spaces. Children relish eating the nutritious meals the childminder provides. They enjoy sharing foods from their different cultural backgrounds and are keen to try new tastes and textures.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are self-motivated, confident learners. They use their developing imaginations and curiosity as they create experiments in their outdoor 'laboratory'. The very youngest are sociable and keen to engage others in their immediate interests. For example, they eagerly share favourite toys, which light up and make sounds as they press buttons. Older children excitedly use their mathematical learning to group together resources, which are the same colour. They count and complete simple wooden puzzles. Children gain satisfaction from their own achievements. They are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.
