p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. All staff have a secure knowledge of safeguarding. They understand how to identify and report any concerns to help protect children from harm. Staff supervise children effectively and staff-to-child ratios meet requirements appropriately. They assess risks thoroughly to ensure areas used by children are well maintained, safe and secure. Staff benefit from regular supervision and appraisal meetings with managers. Regular training and focused staff meetings provide good opportunities for staff to update their professional development. Recruitment systems are robust and the provider completes regular checks to help ensure the ongoing suitability of staff.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff plan a wide range of interesting activities based on their accurate assessments of children's learning and their interests. They know the babies well and engage them in activities they enjoy, such as playing with sand and water in the outdoor environment. Children's communication and language skills are promoted well. Staff working with babies repeat and reinforce new words. Older children are engaged in meaningful conversations. Staff place a very clear focus on helping children to develop good mathematical skills. For example, staff challenge children effectively to identify which water bucket is 'full' and which is the 'lightest' and count the number of steps as they climb the slide. Older children enjoy making marks and drawing pictures of their families using pencils with growing confidence.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and behave very well. All children settle quickly and form secure attachments to friendly staff, who foster their emotional well-being. Staff are positive role models for children. They encourage children to use good manners and share resources with others as they play. Staff ensure the premises are clean, well ventilated and fit for purpose. They ensure sleeping children are comfortable and appropriately monitored. Staff support children to be independent and to manage their personal care needs. For instance, older children serve their own food at mealtimes and learn to eat using a knife and fork. Staff talk to children about the importance of eating healthily during mealtimes. Children begin to understand the wider world. For instance, they learn about festivals from different cultures and enjoy outings in the local area.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop a wide range of skills they need for their future learning and in preparation for school. Babies are motivated to crawl, stand and walk. Toddlers enjoy looking at books and enthusiastically join in with action rhymes. Older children listen well to stories and begin to remember the sequence of events.
