p.1

This provision is good

n The manager and staff strive to provide the best possible opportunities for young children. Self-evaluation helps staff to identify clear targets for future development and a supportive committee helps to ensure the ongoing improvement to the pre-school. n Staff skilfully develop children's vocabulary as they plan a rich and varied curriculum. For example, they use Makaton to support children's developing language and communication skills. n Partnership with parents is strong. Parents opinions are valued and staff encourage their feedback and suggestions, which contributes to successful outcomes for children. For example, parents visit the pre-school to talk about special celebrations. They regularly volunteer to help at the pre-school and share children's learning at home. n Staff are kind and considerate and offer high levels of praise and encouragement. Staff act as good role models and give children gentle and appropriate reminders. Children

She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school. n The inspector spoke to children, staff, committee members and parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager works in partnership with other professionals to ensure that children receive good levels of support. The qualified and experienced team demonstrate good working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and know how to keep children safe while they attend the pre-school. Managers have effective systems in place to monitor staff practice. This helps to ensure good levels of knowledge and training are maintained and staff skilfully support children's individual needs. Leaders and managers have exciting plans to further develop the pre-school, for example, they reflect on the needs of the community and offer additional services to engage and support parents. They have improved staff deployment to help children's self-chosen play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff plan an engaging curriculum which supports young children's emerging next steps well. Staff introduce themes which reflect children's interests and tailor activities, to stimulate curiosity using a range of quality resources. For example, children delight in building dens and exploring water trays. The children make independent choices from a well-resourced environment. They enjoy creative mark making activities, such as potato printing, and benefit from quality interactions with staff. Staff use accurate observation to inform the next steps in children's learning and development. These are clear and concise and reflect the appropriate developmental stages of children. Staff are committed and enthusiastic in their approach. This helps to encourage and support children as they make consistent progress from their starting points.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate independence and are clearly familiar with the routines and expectations of the pre-school. For example, children willingly tidy up, working together to solve problems. Children know how to manage self-care effectively. For example, they wash their hands before and after mealtimes. Children benefit from plenty of opportunities to play outside in the fresh air. For example, they express joy as they play in the rain. They dress themselves in appropriate clothing and help each other to get ready. Children take pride in the pre-school and relish the praise they receive from staff who know them very well. Children are confident, happy and settle quickly in the caring environment. Children's behaviour is consistently good.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are gaining the key skills they need to help prepare them in readiness for school. Children initiate their own learning and use their imaginations in role play and mark making activities, such as drawing tracks for the cars on the whiteboard. Children enjoy listening to well-read stories and singing familiar songs. Children are motivated and eager to learn and explore.
