Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder places importance on children's safety and welfare. She has comprehensive knowledge of her responsibility to follow local safeguarding procedures and to report concerns about a child's welfare. Regular risk assessments are completed to help ensure that the environments used by children are safe and secure. The enthusiastic childminder reflects on her practice and she extends her current good knowledge and skills. For example, she attends training, reads articles and works effectively with other childminding colleagues.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilled at helping children to develop speaking and listening skills. She encourages them to talk and she speaks clearly, using the correct pronunciation of words. The childminder provides many good opportunities for children to explore different textures and media, such as spaghetti, sand and paint. Children build on their small-muscle skills well. For example, they use paintbrushes and sponges, build towers of bricks and draw with pencils. The childminder regularly reviews children learning and development with parents. Parents are very complimentary about the care and education the childminder provides for their children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder places a strong emphasis on children's health and well-being. Children make good progress in their physical development. For instance, they enjoy dancing, running, climbing, and throwing and kicking balls. The childminder offers nutritious snacks and meals, and helps children learn about the types of food that are good for them. Children have a strong sense of belonging and feel safe and secure. This is illustrated when they are tired and they seek out the childminder to enjoy cuddles. Children enjoy outings to the park and observe wildlife, which helps them to learn about the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated to play and learn, and they make good progress from their starting points. They show an emerging interest in mathematics as they count, name colours and shapes. They explore measurement, for example, as they fill and empty containers with stones. Children develop good independence skills. For example, they put on their coats and hats, and help themselves to toys and resources. Children gain the confidence and skills they need for the next steps for learning and school.
