No children have moved into the home or have moved out since the last inspection. The staff team has also remained stable. The staff know the children well and their interactions are warm, playful and affectionate. Observations of the children while they were preparing for school were very positive. Staff plan activities that will give the children new experiences. They work closely with the children’s families and the professionals involved in their lives to ensure that the children’s well-being is at the centre of all plans. Their close work with the child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) has enabled the staff to access specialist courses. This opportunity helps staff to widen their breadth of knowledge and share learning with the team and the wider organisation. Inspection report children’s home: 1251076 2 The newly introduced healthcare plans provide a summary of the children’s medication,

details involving medical professionals, details of appointment dates and the outcomes of appointments. The easily accessible format enables staff to take the whole section to appointments in case any of the additional information is required. The plans are updated regularly and incorporate any plans produced by CAMHS. An example of this includes charting a child’s sleep patterns for two weeks to inform a treatment plan. The children’s plans now have the sensory impact built in to ensure that staff are aware of the child’s sensory needs and any issues. A child who had previously refused on numerous occasions to have her blood pressure taken had this done for the first time. Overcoming the sensory element of this process was a significant step for her and will help with future health appointments. The recording of incidents has been reviewed and revised. This revision provides a clearer overview of a child’s usual behaviours versus those that would be of concern or

deemed more significant. This provides clarity about the frequency and potential triggers for the incidents. The manager’s overview provides the context to the behaviour/concern. This new approach has enhanced the team’s observation skills. The use of physical intervention is low. There have been five incidents since the last inspection. The children are responding positively to alternative approaches, such as redirection and making use of the sensory room and they are becoming increasingly able to self-soothe. The manager’s detailed analysis of incidents and behaviours ensures that practice is continually reviewed and informed by any lessons learned. The managers maintain good oversight of the home. They are self-analytical and keen to share their knowledge. They visit other homes within the organisation to speak with the teams and offer support and knowledge.
