Outcomes for children Requires improvement

p.1

This provision is inadequate

n The childminder has not informed Ofsted of a change to adults working on the premises from which childminding is provided. n The childminder does not have robust procedures in place to ensure all adults looking after and in regular contact with children are suitable. n The childminder reflects on her practice and identifies some areas to improve. However, she does not take swift enough action for it to have an impact. n The childminder and her assistant do not make the most of their knowledge and understanding of how children learn to help them move forward quickly enough in their learning.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n Children are happy and settled and they enjoy their time in the setting. n Children benefit from healthy meals. They have fresh air daily and are learning how to take care of themselves. For example, they know to wrap up warmly to go outside. n Parents speak fondly of the experiences their children receive and the strong relationships they have with their carers.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure Ofsted is provided with the necessary information so that all the required checks can be completed for all adults working on the premises 08/02/2019

ensure all adults working with children are subject to a rigorous recruitment procedure, including obtaining Disclosure and Barring Service checks and suitable references 08/02/2019

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities n We carried out this inspection as a result of a risk assessment, following information we received about the provider. n The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and her assistants at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documents, including training certificates and evidence of suitability checks. n The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

The arrangements for safeguarding are ineffective. The childminder has failed to provide Ofsted with information about all adults working with children. This puts children's safety at risk. However, some aspects of safeguarding are sound. The childminder and her assistants are aware of possible signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. They have a suitable knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding procedures they must implement should they feel a child is a risk. The childminder ensures that any contact children have with dogs on the premises is minimal and very closely supervised. The childminder records children's attendance, accidents and incidents. The childminder and her assistants have current paediatric first-aid certificates. The childminder accurately identified there are areas to improve, such as the continued professional development of adults working with children, but has not taken action to address this.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement

Although the childminder and her assistants are knowledgeable about how children learn, they do not make the best use of their skills. Therefore, teaching and learning are not of a consistently good level, particularly for children who initiate their own activities or find something new to explore. The quality of interactions with these children is not good enough to challenge them and help them make the best progress they can. Despite this, children are confident and enjoy their time with other children. Children show their creativity through pictures they make. They are proud of their emerging writing skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Children's welfare is compromised because the childminder does not ensure that safeguarding requirements are met. However, the childminder and her assistants do support some aspects of children's welfare effectively. The childminder provides an environment that is warm and welcoming. Space is flexible and adapted to meet children's ever-changing needs and interests. Children have a separate area to rest and sleep. Toddlers have space to move around safely and explore. All children have a warm relationship with the childminder and her assistants. Children reach out to a familiar person, secure in the knowledge they will get a cuddle when they need it.

p.3

Outcomes for children require improvement

A breach of the statutory requirements for safeguarding and welfare has a significant impact on children's safety and well-being. Not all children are making consistently good progress. Although gaps in their learning are closing, weaknesses in teaching practice mean that they do not close as quickly as possible. Children are well behaved and learning to be considerate to others. Children are counting, learning numbers and beginning to form letters.
