n Staff provide a warm and welcoming environment. They get to know children well from the outset. This helps children to settle quickly and develop strong bonds with staff. Children are happy and confident. They enjoy the time they spend at nursery. n Partnerships with other professionals are good. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who speak English as an additional language benefit from good targeted support. As a result, all children make good progress relative to their starting points. n Staff work well with parents and place a strong emphasis on supporting parents to continue with their children's learning at home. Good systems are in place to keep parents up to date about their children's progress and achievements. Parents are happy with the service provided. p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Managers and staff have a sound understanding of child protection issues. They can identify potential signs of neglect and abuse and are confident with the procedures to follow should they need to report concerns to outside agencies. Staff supervise children well and maintain a safe environment. Most staff are qualified or working towards a qualification. Managers provide regular opportunities for staff to receive monitoring and coaching. Staff attend regular training, such as first aid and child protection. This means that staff are suitably equipped to fulfil their roles.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff regularly observe children's play. They use this information to plan activities that match children's individual needs and interests. Managers and staff have a good understanding of children's progress. This helps to ensure all children, including those in receipt of additional funding, make good progress in their learning. Children's communication and language skills are promoted well. Staff working with babies repeat and reinforce new words. Older children are encouraged to join in with meaningful conversations and contribute to group discussions. Children enjoy learning about other customs and faiths. For example, they enjoy joining in with activities to celebrate Chinese New Year. They enjoy making dragon masks and joining in with Chinese dance routines.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff help children learn about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. They provide children with a range of healthy and nutritious snacks. Children learn where food comes from and which foods help to maintain good health. For example, pre-school children enjoy talking about and making comparisons about the potatoes they have in their meal and those they have been growing outside. Good hygiene routines are followed. Children know they must wash their hands before handling food and after using the toilet. Children make good friendships with each other. They happily share, take turns and play cooperatively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are willing to 'have a go' and readily join in with the activities on offer. They enjoy making choices in their play. Babies demonstrate their curiosity about books. They persevere and enjoy handling books, turning the pages and opening the flaps to reveal the pictures. Older children show pride in their achievements, readily showing staff and visitors their finished pictures. Children are developing their independence. For example, toddler and pre-school children can put on their coats and manage their personal needs. All children develop key skills they will need to support them with their future learning, including their move on to school.
