This provision is good
n The childminder knows children well. She observes them closely and makes precise assessments of their progress and learning needs. All children make good progress based on their starting points. n The childminder plans and provides many opportunities to support children in gaining an understanding of their immediate and wider world. For example, children enjoy visiting different parks, travelling on public transport and taking part in fun activities to mark diverse traditions, such as Chinese New Year. n The childminder has a superb selection of books. Babies sit attentively with her looking at picture books, enthusiastically pointing to different animals and imitating the sounds they make. Young toddlers confidently add the endings to repeated phrases in well- known stories. n The childminder forms strong partnerships with parents and has been extremely proactive in establishing arrangements for sharing information with other settings that

pre-school children also attend. n The childminder does not consistently extend activities to provide children with maximum challenge and to help them learn about things in greater depth. n The childminder does not target children's learning about shape and measure as well as she does with that of numeracy.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to act on concerns about a child's welfare and the procedures to follow. The childminder makes good use of training to improve her practice. For example, she has developed very effective processes for assessing, tracking and planning of children's progress. The childminder is booked to complete a training session focusing on promoting mathematics. She is also sourcing higher level safeguarding training. The childminder reflects well on her practice. She recognises priorities for improvement and proactively targets these.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn through play and practical experiences. She recognises children's interests and development needs, and plans and provides activities to specifically target their individual progress. For example, toddlers enjoy using tweezer-style tongs and manipulating play dough. The childminder plans these activities to help them develop stronger hand skills. Children have fun identifying the numbers on buses when they are out and about. They are introduced to Chinese writing as they play in the Chinese role-play restaurant. Toddlers enjoy many activities that encourage them to experiment using their senses. For example, they had fun painting the ice blue during the recent snowy weather. The childminder joins in children's play, maximising all opportunities to encourage speech and language.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are cared for in a nurturing and well-resourced environment. They form immensely strong emotional attachments with the childminder. Children use the high- quality toys very well. For example, toddlers patiently connect train track pieces, and older children make complex models using different construction sets. Toddlers play extremely cooperatively together. Behaviour is exemplary. Children develop a strong understanding of safety. They learn to stand still if approached by an off-lead dog in the park and how to behave on buses and trains. Children take part in plenty of physical exercise and enjoy daily activities outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for moving on to pre-school and school. They develop good levels of independence, such as feeding and dressing themselves. Children enthusiastically register their attendance, either by finding their photograph or their name card on arrival. Older children are learning to link letters with the sounds that they represent. Children use pencils to write for a purpose, for instance during role play. They develop strong numeracy, speech and language skills.
