Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminding completes regular training in child protection and is aware of the procedures to follow should there be a concern about a child's welfare. She implements robust risk assessments in her home and on outings to help ensure children play in safe and suitable environments. The childminder has made a positive start to her childminding business. For example, she accurately maintains the required records, such as visitors' log, medication and accident records, a daily register of children's hours of attendance and contracts with parents.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's teaching is good. She is proactive in supporting children's language and communication skills. The childminder engages children in conversation and introduces them to new words to extend their vocabulary. For example, while looking at books about different types of vehicles, children learned about forklift trucks and what they do. She asks appropriate questions and allows children time to think about their responses. The childminder uses various strategies to promote children's early mathematical skills. For instance, she encourages children to match shapes and colours on corresponding activity mats. She supports children's play really well, as she provides them with time throughout the day to explore resources by themselves. Those interested in building activities gravitate to colourful wooden cranes and building bricks. They enthusiastically use the bricks to build tall towers.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder gathers detailed information from parents prior to the children attending. This helps her to provide meaningful activities for children when they first start, which she links to their interests to support them to settle with ease into her care. Children form a strong bond with the childminder, as the snuggle into her while sitting on the sofa enjoying story times. The childminder is proactive in helping children to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, she sits with them to enjoy nutritious home-cooked meals and snacks. She engages them in meaningful conversations about healthy choices to enhance their knowledge further. The childminder effectively supports children's growing independence. For instance, she encourages younger children to feed themselves and to follow well-embedded health and hygiene routines.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making typical progress for their age and stage. They are learning new skills which help towards their next stages in learning and moving on to school. For example, they are keen to take part in activities and participate well, showing interest and good concentration abilities. Younger children develop their small muscle skills in preparation for early writing. For instance, they enjoy manipulating dough and using a variety of tools and different types of cutters.
