Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a secure knowledge of how and when to report concerns she may have about children in her care. She ensures her assistants understand the procedures and they all complete regular child protection training. Weaknesses raised at the last inspection have been addressed and thorough risk assessments regarding the use of assistants are now in place. Assistants are guided and supported by the childminder in their practice. The childminder has developed her systems for helping her to assess what she does well and where she can improve. This has helped her to focus on the areas for development that will have the most impact on the children she cares for.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children's progress is regularly reviewed. Interesting play opportunities are provided to help children achieve the identified next steps in their learning. The childminder and her assistants interact positively in children's play. They support children's language and communication skills well and encourage them to think for themselves. For example, children explored an apple at snack time and talked about the features, such as the core and pips. They were encouraged to think about what may happen if they planted the pips in the ground. Children have good opportunities to count and select a given number of items in routine activities. For example, children were asked to take two pieces of apple from a plate.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy spending time with the childminder and her assistants. They are confident to tell the childminder about their experiences away from the setting, such a trip to the dentist. The childminder listens and shows enthusiasm for what children are saying, helping to raise their self-esteem and confidence even further. Clear behavioural expectations of children are in place and children respond to these well. Children are encouraged to be polite and use good manners. They are praised for their achievements. Children play in a safe and secure environment and are closely supervised. On outings, children wear high-visibility jackets and emergency contact bracelets so they can be easily identified in the event of an emergency.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are working at typical levels of development for their age. They are well prepared to move on to the next stage in their education. Children independently manage their self-care skills and carry out tasks with confidence. Children can recognise their own name. They develop a keen interest in books and enjoy singing familiar songs.
