She regularly shares her assessments of children's progress and her ongoing observations of their new skills. The childminder provides ideas for parents to extend their children's learning at home. n The childminder identifies what children need to learn next and considers ways she can support them to achieve these specific next steps. Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder updates her knowledge of child protection. She knows the signs that may indicate a concern for a child's welfare. The childminder has procedures in place to report any such concerns to the appropriate authorities. The childminder develops her professional knowledge through her research and discussions with other childminders. This has helped her improve the range of activities that support younger children to learn through their senses. The childminder encourages parents to express their views about her provision. Parents are extremely complimentary about the care she provides for their children. The childminder identifies areas to strengthen based on her ongoing reflection of her provision. She regularly checks children's progress to help her identify and address any gaps in their development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder joins in with children's activities. She comments on their play and makes many suggestions. This helps children to learn. The childminder provides a wide range of toys and resources that support all areas of their learning. She provides activities that help younger children explore a range of materials, such as flour and water. The childminder encourages children to make marks and develop their drawing skills. She recognises opportunities during children's spontaneous play to introduce mathematical ideas. She demonstrates counting and helps younger children build towers as they explore block shapes. The childminder helps children to learn new vocabulary and praises them for their emerging use of words.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to stay safe and healthy. She provides healthy meals that they enjoy. The childminder ensures that children play energetically outside each day. She helps children to make friends and share toys. She works well with parents to help older children learn to use the toilet independently. The childminder's regular use of praise and encouragement helps children to develop positive self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Younger children show an emerging interest in looking at books. They hold pencils and make marks in preparation for writing. Children learn about the sounds linked to letters as the childminder demonstrates writing their names. Older children learn how to cross the roads safely. Children develop good imaginations. They explore the different sounds they can make on a guitar. All children develop skills to help prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including school.
