p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to respond to and report concerns about children's welfare. She has sufficient safeguarding knowledge to identify and act on potential risks posed to children and involves outside agencies if needed. The childminder implements procedures effectively to help keep children safe. For example, she conducts regular risk assessments and completes accurate accident records which are shared with parents. The childminder uses her links with other practitioners, including her co-childminder, to help evaluate her service. She gathers information about children from parents to provide activities that children engage with and enjoy.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to build on what they already know and can do. For example, she counts cars and buses with children on the way home from school. This contributes to the mathematical skills they learn at school. The childminder provides good support for children who are less confident to take part in activities. For instance, she speaks with them about meaningful events and their wider family members. Children enjoy looking at books and sharing stories. This helps children to interact well and further develop their communication skills. Children who speak another language at home practise their English-speaking skills and gain confidence in their growing abilities. The childminder undertakes regular observations of children to check that activities meet their needs and interests.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides good support for children's social and emotional development. Children show that they feel happy and secure in her care. The childminder offers effective reassurance to children when they become insecure, for example in the presence of unfamiliar adults. Children develop good social skills. For instance, they use cutlery well and show good table manners. Children learn good hygiene habits as they manage their personal care needs. The childminder helps children to develop a strong sense of belonging, for instance as she discusses children's upcoming visits to close family members.
