This provision is outstanding
n The childminder thoroughly evaluates her provision and astutely plans for improvement, taking account of the views of parents and their children. Parents say that the childminder provides 'extremely helpful daily updates', 'very sensitive settling- in sessions' and 'very professional and clear leadership'. n The childminder works closely with parents to establish what children already know and can do when they start. She uses this clear baseline to assess children's progress and monitor the impact of her practice. The childminder diligently plans activities that capture children's imaginations and help them to make excellent rates of progress. n The childminder creates exceptionally nurturing environments, where children know they are valued and respected as individuals. She consistently praises children's efforts and achievements, and children copy her very positive approach to solving problems.

This provision is outstanding
For example, when a wax crayon breaks in two it is perfect to share with a friend. n Outcomes for children are excellent. Children of all ages are extremely well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They are curious to explore the world around them and are confident to ask questions to find out more. For instance, as older children persisted in comparing the effectiveness of two toy vacuums, their questioning led to discussions about suction and how vacuums work. n The childminder continues with her ongoing professional development. She shares her knowledge from training with her assistants to help keep them up to date. The childminder also monitors and guides their work to help her raise standards even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is exceptionally well organised and accountable to parents and regulators in the management of her business. She works with two assistants who help ensure that every child is welcomed, cherished and nurtured during the busy times before and after school. The childminder shares clear policies and procedures with her assistants and children's parents to help promote all aspects of children's safety and welfare, and provide continuity in their care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a detailed knowledge of child protection and welfare. She checks that her assistants know how to recognise and respond quickly to any such concerns .
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder knows each child's strengths, interests and needs extremely well. She is swift to capture and extend children's interests and challenge them to higher levels of thinking. For example, excited by a recent snow storm, children were delighted to sieve flour over a road map to create a snowy scene. The childminder challenged the children to work out how they could move rescue vehicles through the 'snow drifts' to find numbers hidden underneath. Children learn how to recognise numbers. They practise pre-literacy skills, including holding and controlling small tools to make marks and draw shapes in the 'snow'. However, in other exciting areas of imaginative play, children do not have the same high-quality opportunities to practise 'writing' for a purpose. For example, children playing firefighters or construction engineers cannot chalk up emergency numbers or pretend to write lists, draw up plans or record measurements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder is highly attentive to children's individual needs, and children are very secure in her care. They are confident to explore new activities and take great pleasure in playing together. The childminder creates and swiftly takes advantage of any opportunities that arise to teach children how to keep themselves safe. For instance, she skilfully uses some well-chosen, easily accessible books and illustrations in her playroom to develop children's understanding of right from wrong. Children gain the confidence to say when something is not right and they need help to sort it out.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children of all ages make rapid progress in their learning and development. For example, toddlers sing an alphabet song as they play and are quick to make sense of toy computers, cameras and calculators. Older children know that if something technical does not work, then it might need new batteries or to be plugged in. They share safety tips, including telling friends that it is unsafe to put their fingers in a plug socket. Children are very well prepared socially and academically for school and other activities in their community. For example, they wash their hands independently, use cutlery with ease, chat together around the meal table and help to tidy up after themselves.
