Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder understands the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern about the welfare of a child in her care. She knows the procedure to follow if she has any concerns. She has attended training updates about how to identify any children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder keeps up to date with new developments and builds on her professional skills and knowledge, for instance through regular training. She uses her training effectively. For example, she has learned to use simple signs to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers detailed information when children join her setting. She uses this to carefully and quickly plan what children need to learn from the outset. Children learn about the natural world. They enjoy regular trips to local green spaces and talking about what they see. The childminder supports children's physical development. Children delightedly share their favourite books with the childminder and spontaneously join in while she reads to them. Parents are supported in extending their children's learning at home and children benefit from the continuity in their learning. The childminder uses a rich, varied vocabulary and supports children's emerging language skills effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Parents praise the care the childminder provides and say their children enjoy attending the setting. The childminder supports children's social skills. For example, they attend local groups and play in larger groups with children of different ages. Children happily carry out simple, manageable tasks. For instance, they move the chairs they sit on so they can access their resources more easily. They learn about leading a healthy lifestyle as they enjoy the nutritious meals the childminder provides. The childminder encourages children to think about special people in their lives, for example, as they make cards and pictures for their families.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and self-motivated learners. They are keen to share their learning and activities with others. For example, they spontaneously demonstrate their favourite dance moves and talk about their favourite animals. Children use their developing imaginations as they play 'shop'. They excitedly use simple technology to scan the items they are selling and add up how much they cost. Children use their physical skills to build towers out of coloured bricks and laugh as they name it 'London Tower'. They are well prepared for the next stage of their learning.
