This provision is good
n The childminder develops strong partnerships with parents. Together they share a wealth of information relating to children's progress and achievements, both in the setting and at home. This helps the childminder to produce accurate assessments and to plan effectively for children's next steps in learning. Children make good progress from their starting points. n Relationships between children and the caring childminder are secure. Children enjoy being close to the childminder and she knows their individual preferences well. For instance, the childminder rocks young children to sleep following their routines from home. This helps children to feel safe and secure. n The quality of the childminder's teaching is good, overall. She is enthusiastic and provides children with a good balance of adult-led and child-initiated play. For example, the childminder recognises children's emerging interests, such as playing with dolls.

This provision is good
She provides them with opportunities that help to extend their play and develop their imaginations further. n The childminder provides a wide range of exciting outings for children. They visit playgroups and libraries and enjoy train journeys to places further afield. This helps children to begin to develop an understanding of the local and wider community. n The childminder values the importance of helping children to develop good behaviour and social skills from an early age. For instance, she encourages older one-year-old children to take turns and cooperate with routines, such as tidying up. Children show good levels of self-esteem. For example, when they have put the toys away they clap and smile at their achievement. n Occasionally, during activities, some aspects of the childminder's teaching are slightly too challenging for children. n The childminder has not focused her professional development precisely enough on

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder closely monitors children's progress and is able to identify any potential delays in their development. She works closely with other professionals when the need arises. For instance, she accompanies parents and children to speech and language appointments. This helps the childminder to understand children's targeted plans and helps her to support children's learning further. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how she would recognise the potential signs of abuse or neglect. She is confident in the procedures to follow in the event of a concern. The childminder evaluates her provision generally well and has high expectations. For instance, since her last inspection, she has made positive changes to the outdoor area. Areas have been developed and enhanced to offer children even more play opportunities. Parents comment positively about the childminder and her service. For

example, they say that the childminder is 'kind, patient and professional'.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy song and rhyme sessions. For instance, the childminder offers children a familiar prop to hold and she sings for them. Children move their bodies to the rhythm, watch the childminder intently and use their voices to make sounds. This helps to support the development of children's early communication and language skills. Children enjoy building towers with bricks. They concentrate as they use their hands to connect the bricks together and balance the tower. This helps children to develop their physical skills and helps to strengthen their hand and finger muscles. The childminder introduces counting into many play opportunities and she models the names of shapes as children play. This helps to support children's early mathematical learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and inviting environment for children, where they play and explore safely. She helps children to lead healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides children with regular drinks to keep them hydrated and they engage in tooth brushing routines each day. The childminder has a good awareness of the cultural backgrounds and beliefs of individual families, and she is respectful of these. She also provides children with experiences that help to support their understanding of different cultures and celebrations. For example, she offers a range of resources and activities to help children to explore and learn about Chinese New Year. This helps to build on children's understanding and tolerance of people from different cultural backgrounds.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident, self-assured and motivated to learn and engage in new experiences. They are well prepared for their next stage in learning and their eventual move to school. Children develop independence that is appropriate for their age, such as feeding themselves. They are provided with a range of opportunities to support them to make decisions and lead their play.
