Inspection report children’s home: SC456850 1 SC456850 Registered provider: Cambian Childcare Limited Interim inspection Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This is one of a number of privately run children’s homes operated by a private company. The home is registered to provide care and accommodation for one young person who may need support with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The registered manager also manages another home within the company, and the homes are near each other.

Enforcement action since last inspection: none

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Two young people have moved out of the home since the last inspection and one young person has recently been admitted from another home within the organisation. This was a planned move and the young person has settled well in the short period of time that she has been living in the home. Her staff team moved with her from the previous home she lived in, to ensure consistency in care.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Shortfalls were identified in how plans for transitions were communicated to staff and young people. Furthermore, young people’s records do not demonstrate how staff ensure careful and child-centred transitions into and out of the home. Inspection report children’s home: SC456850 2 Staff ensure that young people have risk assessments in place, which identify young people’s known vulnerabilities and actions that staff are expected to take to ensure that young people are kept safe. The manager, however, needs to ensure that risk assessments are signed and understood by all the staff working with the young person.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

There has been one significant incident since the last inspection. This incident was notified to Ofsted and strategies have been put in place to minimise any further risk of this behaviour.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager has not ensured that the requirements and recommendations made at the last inspection are met. She did not submit an action plan detailing how these shortfalls would be addressed. Furthermore, she has not acted to promptly address any recommendations made from independent visits to the home. This does not demonstrate that she uses monitoring and review systems to improve standards of care.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Only three of the staff currently working in the home have the required level 3 qualification. One member of staff has not been able to complete the level 3 diploma within the required timescale. Staff working in team leader roles have not had any supervision training. This does not demonstrate that staff have the qualifications and skills required for their roles.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager does not ensure that there is a clear record of staff rosters. The manager and the full names of staff who are covering shifts are not included on rosters. This does not ensure that there is an accurate record of staff who have worked in the home.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

The organisation has identified some shortfalls in the leadership and management of the home since the last inspection and has put a plan in place to ensure that there are more robust management arrangements in the home going forward.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff communicate well with external agencies such as social workers and the police, to support young people’s progress.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
