p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The experienced childminder provides a homely learning environment where children are keen and motivated to learn. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of local safeguarding procedures and knows exactly what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She is fully aware of the signs that may suggest children and their families are potentially at risk from extreme views and ideas. The childminder has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, which she uses well to support her good practice. Her risk assessments are robust and all areas of the home are safe and secure. The childminder has a good understanding of the importance of partnership working. For example, she works closely with other settings that children attend to share information in order to promote continuity of care for each child.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gets to know children well. She assesses their initial development when they first begin attending, using her own observations and information provided by their parents. Children's ongoing progress is monitored regularly and the childminder provides opportunities for them to develop their skills in each area of learning. For example, during the inspection, children demonstrated their eagerness to learn as they enjoyed making salt dough with the childminder. Children carefully measured the ingredients and mixed them in the bowl. The childminder regularly offers praise and encouragement to children, which contributes to their confidence and self-esteem. Children enjoy engaging in conversations with the childminder as they discuss their thoughts and ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children respond well to the childminder's warm and positive approach, which promotes their emotional well-being. The childminder is attentive to children's individual needs, enabling them to feel happy and settled. Children behave well and are familiar with routines, such as taking off their shoes independently when coming into the house. Children learn to be independent and are happy to select their own toys and games to play with. They quickly immerse themselves in their imagination as they play with dolls. Children are given plenty of opportunities to have fresh air and exercise through regular trips to the local park and playing outdoor games. They learn about the importance of exercise and eat healthy snacks, such as fruit.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and are working within the range of development expected for their age. Older children are taught to manage their self-care, such as pouring their own drinks and managing their personal hygiene routines. Children develop good social skills and are prepared well for their eventual move on to school.
