This provision is good

n The childminder develops and maintains secure relationships with parents and others providing early years education. She shares information with parents daily and welcomes discussions and information exchanges with staff at other settings children also attend. This provides effective continuity of care and learning for children. n The childminder understands children's current interests and developmental needs and seamlessly weaves these into children's play experiences. Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. n Children develop trusting and secure relationships with the childminder. They approach her for reassurance, actively involve her in their play and show that they are settled in her care. They gain good levels of self-esteem and confidence. n Children develop good levels of imagination, such as when they pretend to put the play people to bed and take care of their dolls.

p.1

This provision is good

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge of child protection. She understands the wider aspects of safeguarding and her role in referring any concerns she may have about a child's welfare. The childminder shares good practice information with other childminders and improves her skills effectively. For example, recent training has increased her awareness of how to link her observations of children's learning more successfully with guidance on developmental stages. This has improved how she plans challenging and purposeful activities for each child. The childminder seeks the views of parents and evaluates her practice effectively. She set well-targeted areas for improvement including those for her professional development and interests. This aids her to continually improve the outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is skilled in supporting children as they play. This was evident when she showed children how to use the stamp to create an image of their favourite cartoon character in the modelling dough. Children were amazed and astonished to see the character appear in front of their eyes. The childminder introduced new vocabulary and positional language, such as 'squashed' and 'on top' to help strengthen children's language and mathematics knowledge. She monitors children's progress effectively and sets plans for aspects of development they need to learn next. This enables her to promptly address and close any gaps in children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have countless opportunities to explore their immediate community with the childminder. They attend toddler groups where they take part in creative play and they make good use of the local parks. This encourages them to be physically active and to adopt healthy lifestyles, while also increasing their awareness of the wider world. The childminder encourages children to voice their opinions, such as in planning the activities they wish to undertake or meals and snacks they would like to eat. Children feel valued and develop a strong sense of self-worth. The childminder provides a safe and secure environment and minimises potential risks to children. For example, she has placed locks on kitchen drawers and stores cleaning products out of reach.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children learn effective skills for their future learning. They develop good levels of concentration and become engrossed and immersed in their play and learning. For instance, they sit with the childminder for long periods of time reading stories and looking at books. They lift the flaps and touch the differing textures on the pages. Children show great delight as they take part in singing sessions. They begin to learn how technology can help them listen to their favourite songs and how they can use their voices to make their own music.
