p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the signs that might indicate a child is at risk from harm and how to report any concerns about children's welfare. She gives children's safety high priority and uses effective measures to identify and minimise risks within her home. This helps to ensure that children have a secure environment in which to play. The childminder works closely with parents to meet children's individual needs effectively. She evaluates the provision effectively and includes the views of parents and children to help identify areas for further improvement. For example, she regularly encourages children to evaluate the resources and activities to ensure that they continue to be motivated to learn.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly observes children as they play. She uses the information she gathers to monitor their progress and identify what they need to learn next. The childminder ensures that she shares information about children's learning with their parents and with other settings that the children also attend. She uses effective ways to promote all children's communication skills. For example, the childminder constantly communicates, using rich language as she joins children in talks about their past experiences and their families. The childminder plans a good range of activities to promote children's ongoing development. She supports their understanding of mathematics well. For instance, the childminder provides activities to develop children's learning about shapes and numbers.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is kind and nurturing and has a positive relationship with the children. She recognises children's achievements and gives regular praise to build children's self- esteem. She models expected behaviour well, such as saying 'please' and 'thank you' and being respectful. She helps children to understand about keeping themselves safe. For instance, when she is preparing to take the children out, she reminds them of how to be safe when walking to collect others from school. The childminder makes the most of opportunities to enhance children's independence skills. For example, she provides opportunities for children to put on their shoes and coats when preparing to go outside.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make steady progress from their individual starting points and achieve levels of development that are typical for their age. They gain a good range of skills to support the next stages in their development, including being prepared to move on to school. Children attend playgroups with the childminder and develop their social skills successfully.
