This provision is good
n The childminder has children's best interests at heart. She creates a relaxed and homely environment where children play and learn concurrently. The good range of engaging experiences are well matched to children's learning needs and interests. Children gain the skills they require for their next phase of learning, including school. n The childminder welcomes children with a friendly smile and is responsive to their emotional needs. Her quick-thinking methods, such as finding favourite toys for children to play with following a short break, help them to feel instantly settled and assured as parents leave. Children are clearly very happy with the devoted childminder. n The childminder engages children in enthralling experiences, such as simple aspects of farming, within a safe and controlled environment. This contributes towards children's superior understanding of different occupations and ways of life. Children thoroughly

enjoy their time outdoors on the farm and use complex vocabulary focused on objects. n The childminder provides a good range of resources that inspire children to use their imagination and build stories around what they enjoy. Her timely and precise interventions capture opportunities to advance children's knowledge of different mathematical concepts, such as counting and estimating, as these arise during play. n The childminder does not share enough direct and regular information with teachers from other settings that children attend, to promote the highest levels of continuity. n The childminder has not explored a wide range of professional development opportunities that aim to raise the quality of teaching to an outstanding level.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She is alert to any potential dangers, such as those associated with being on a farm site, and takes effective steps to minimise any risks. For example, the childminder ensures that children wear high visibility jackets when outdoors so that they remain safe and seen at all times. She promotes good hygiene routines and explains the importance of staying a safe distance away from livestock and machinery. This helps to ensure that children remain safe and healthy. Tracking is used well to identify and close any emerging gaps in children's learning. The childminder continually evaluates her provision. She makes purposeful enhancements, such as providing low level cosy areas for children to crawl in and out of, to act on and embrace their preferred patterns of play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder makes accurate observations and assessments of children's learning. She plans a good range of challenging experiences that build on what children know and enjoy. For example, as the children have an interest in baking, the childminder provides opportunities for them to decorate cakes, to help to enhance their design and creativity skills. She spends time with each child simultaneously, to further extend their learning in line with their particular stages of development. Younger children are keen to use their senses to explore materials, such as icing sugar and water, and use tools for a purpose to develop good physical skills. Older children are confident to make predictions about what will happen when materials are mixed together and talk about more complex aspects, such as shades of colour. The childminder expertly engages parents in all aspects of their children's learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder forms a secure bond with every child. She takes an interest in children's home lives and welcomes them to share information about special events, such as the arrival of a new baby. Complementary experiences, such as helping to feed newborn lambs on the farm, contribute towards children's increasing knowledge of new life and how to care for living things. The childminder leads by example. She intentionally models the use of good manners and encourages children to help with responsible tasks, such as washing the dishes after a snack. This helps to advance children's self-care skills and contributes towards them adopting helpful and respectful attitudes. Purposeful outings, such as those to the adventure playground at the local school, help children to become familiar with the environment they will eventually move on to.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development. Younger children explore their appealing surroundings independently. They show interest in the play themes that other children initiate and are confident to join in. Older children express a desire to learn about different occupations. They use language to recreate roles and experiences, such as those associated with farming, during play situations and talk about some of the similarities and differences in relation to their family and friends.
