Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has good understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to make a referral if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She uses the downstairs part of her house for childminding and regularly checks the premises. This helps ensure that children are supervised effectively and are cared for in a safe environment. The childminder regularly seeks feedback from parents and other professionals to help her continue to build on the quality of her provision. She has established good links with other settings children attend and regularly shares relevant information with teachers at the schools. This helps promote continuity of care and build effectively on children's prior learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes children. She incorporates their next stage of learning into her planned activities. She joins the children in their play, effectively using descriptive words to support their early language development. For example, naming the farm animals, performing the noise they make and adding words to indicate size or colour. Children are excited to take part in these learning experiences. The childminder shares books with children. She reads the text while pointing to the characters or pictures on the page and encourages children to independently turn the pages at the appropriate time. Young children sit comfortably with the childminder. She brings excitement to the story, which helps children to remain engaged.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder interacts warmly with children. She works closely with parents to suitably manage children's settling-in periods. Parents report that their children settle quickly into her care. The childminder is sensitive to children's needs. For example, she responds to a child who is tired and ready to sleep. She regularly praises and reassures the children, successfully promoting their self-esteem and emotional development. The childminder provides children with daily opportunities to enjoy fresh air. For example, children visit local parks or farms. They observe a cow being milked and a calf being bottle fed. These exciting experiences build on their understanding of the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They gain confidence in making independent choices, self- selecting from age-appropriate toys and resources. Children are motivated to learn and gain the essential skills needed to help prepare them for the next stage in their learning.
