p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder recently completed a course to help her remain highly vigilant around the protection of children in her care. She is confident in how she would identify potential signs of abuse and the procedures she would use to report any concerns for a child's welfare. The childminder is reflective in how she uses self-evaluation to improve her provision. She actively seeks the views and comments of parents and children to help her identify areas for improvement. The childminder uses robust risk assessments to provide a safe and secure environment at home and when on outings. She helps children to learn about keeping themselves safe, in order to build on their early awareness. For example, children learn about safely crossing the road and the importance of tidying away toys to prevent accidents.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly observes children to provide further challenges and precisely plan for their future learning. She includes parents in helping to set the next steps in children's learning, and uses daily diaries and assessment reports to help children continue to learn when at home. The childminder helps to build on children's increasing vocabulary and communication skills. For instance, older children enter into pertinent conversations about mixing and creating new colours when involved in activities, and younger children repeat sounds and simple words. Children use their own problem- solving skills as they match patterns and shapes when completing jigsaw puzzles and use early technology to repeat actions, using their increasing memory and recall skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model who is nurturing towards the children in her care. They can express their own wants and needs and immediately seek the childminder's reassurance when they become upset. The childminder provides a stimulating learning environment and she follows the development of the children closely. Children are given lots of time to explore independently and received constant praise, which helps to build on their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder helps children to learn about the wider world and the immediate community around them. For example, they go on many outings to playgroups and visits to the park, and enter into pertinent discussions with the childminder about people who help us. As they look out of the window, they talk about the postman and the people who are collecting the recycling bins.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are engaged and enthusiastic learners. They show a growing determination in doing things by themselves and persevering to complete tasks. Children have many opportunities to be physically active as they play in the large garden and are supported to make healthy choices in meals and snacks provided for them. Children investigate new things with enthusiasm to build on their learning. For example, they eagerly watch reflections that the sun creates on the wall. Children play and share well with others and are developing the necessary skills they require for their future learning.
