p.1
Information about this children’s home
This privately owned home provides care and accommodation for up to three young people who have complex needs. The home’s statement of purpose states that staff provide a warm and caring environment with a focus on building positive nurturing relationships with all the young people they care for. The home offers planned placements and will consider emergency placements.

Judgement at last inspection: good
Enforcement action since last inspection: none
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved effectiveness.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered manager has addressed the one requirement and two recommendations from the last inspection. This has resulted in better procedures for the safe recruitment of staff, improved management oversight of the safe administration of medicines and more information on the local area to help staff keep young people safe.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home is welcoming and comfortable, and young people are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms. Interim inspection report children’s home: 1255095 2 Young people with complex needs continue to make good progress towards independence, engage well with therapy, improve their family contact, and attend school. Moves into and out of the home are well managed and are child-focused. One young person, who has now left, told the staff, ‘Though it’s been difficult at times, due to personal reasons, I have really enjoyed my time here and the staff have been a pleasure and I am very pleased, and you will all be missed.’
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff keep young people safe and manage significant risks of child sexual exploitation well. Staff involve young people in discussing their behaviour management plans. If young people go missing from the home, staff follow them, inform the police and adhere to policies and procedures. The registered manager regularly reviews and updates risk assessments to ensure that they stay a ‘live’ record.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
When the registered manager recognised that the home was unable to keep one particularly high-risk young person safe, she engaged well with other professionals to ensure that an appropriate alternative placement was secured.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff are highly trained and are confident in their roles. Staff training includes learning about conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, attachment, therapeutic parenting and behaviour management.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff and the registered manager work with a range of professionals including mental health, the police and local authorities. For example, the registered manager has requested a medication review for one young person to ensure that his health needs continue to be met.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home is well managed, and records are orderly and accessible for staff. A positive development since the last inspection has been the introduction of a monthly consultation meeting for staff with a clinical psychologist. This has increased all staff members’ understanding of young people’s needs. Despite the good progress, staff are not always creative in encouraging young people to explore more healthy food options.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
