p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The manager and staff undertake regular safeguarding training and demonstrate a good knowledge of the procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child. They are alert to the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of abuse. Recruitment processes are robust to help ensure the suitability of adults working with children. Staff receive regular support, for instance through supervisory meetings with the manager. They have good training opportunities to update their skills consistently. For example, recent training in basic sign language has helped staff to give children a means of communication through using signs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff use observations and assessments effectively to identify children's next steps in learning. They provide an interesting learning environment that is tailored to children's needs, which motivates children's learning. Staff have a good understanding of child development. For example, they support children to strengthen their hand muscles through enjoyable group activities in preparation for writing. Staff support children's creativity well, they capture their attention and support them to add a narrative during their role play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff support children to develop an understanding of healthy eating through exciting activities. For instance, children explore different fruits through play to support them to try different foods. Children are given lots of opportunities to develop their independence. For example, children confidently peel and cut fruit at snack time and get themselves ready for outdoor play. Children behave well. Staff speak to children in a calm manner to support them to develop good social skills as they share and take turns with others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points, including children who receive additional funding. Children are curious and confident learners. They show their curiosity as they make 'snow dough', experimenting with the ingredients. Children recognise their names and are beginning to learn and recognise letters. Children develop confidence in speaking in small groups. Children are prepared well for their next stage in learning and move to school.
