She knows how to record her observations and understands the procedures for reporting any concerns. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the way children learn and of their developmental needs. She knows the children well and is aware of her role in supporting their learning. The childminder provides activities that help to develop their skills. For example, children enjoy the competition of a fishing game using magnetic rods. They add up their scores to see who has won. The childminder helps them to recognise the numbers and to understand mathematical concepts, such as 'more and less' and 'higher and lower'. Children explore a wide variety of craft materials and use their imagination to make their own creations. The childminder provides opportunities for children to develop their physical skills as they play racing games in the garden and walk to the local park.

Children demonstrate by their behaviour that they feel safe and secure. The childminder operates an inclusive setting where children learn to value diversity. They learn about differences in people and the customs they celebrate. Children eagerly explore a board full of magnets obtained from families' holidays abroad. They chatter excitedly as they match them to pictures of flags on display to discover their country of origin. Children are confident and independent. They understand the rules and routines of the setting. The childminder prepares a fruit platter to welcome children home from school and she provides healthy and well-balanced freshly cooked meals.
