Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has recently completed child protection training. She can identify possible indicators of different types of abuse. The childminder understands what action to take and who to contact with any concerns. She effectively identifies and minimises potential risks in the setting. The childminder reflects on the overall quality of her setting. She gathers the views of parents and discusses possible areas for improvement. For example, the childminder reflects on parent's feedback so that children who prefer to learn outdoors have plenty of time to explore outside each day. Parents are encouraged to share their child's learning from home. They share photographs and add comments to children's learning records. The childminder shares information about local events with parents to help to promote children's interests further. This helps to promote continuity in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers information from parents when children first start at the setting. She finds out what children already know and can do. She uses this information to plan activities that meet their interests and individual needs. Children enjoy exploring a variety of interesting materials set up as a 'farm'. The childminder demonstrates ideas to help children learn about the animals. For example, she puts the pigs in the chocolate mousse 'mud' and says 'splat'. Children watch carefully and copy her actions and repeat the words. The childminder asks children to make different animal sounds and plays a game matching animal figures to pictures. This helps to promote children's communication skills and develop their vocabulary further. Children are intrigued to feel different textures, such as crunchy cereal in a tray. They persevere to use tweezers to pick up the cereal and drop it into a bowl. The childminder encourages children to count

how many they have in total. This helps them to practise their number skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has created a welcoming environment with a wide range of resources. Children enjoy making their own choices in play and pursue their interests. For example, they pretend to be doctors and nurses and use a stethoscope to listen to each other's heartbeats. Children show good concentration while they manipulate dough with their fingers and a variety of tools. This helps to develop the small muscles in their fingers and hands in preparation for early writing skills. The childminder encourages children to follow routines successfully. They are happy to have their nappies changed and wipe their hands clean afterwards. The childminder works closely with parents to provide healthy meals. This helps to cater for children's individual needs effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are achieving in line with expectations for their age. They grow in confidence and build friendships with others. Children enjoy sharing books together and practise singing repetitive songs with puppets. They delight in dancing to music and attempt to copy different actions. Children learn about number, shape, measure and colour through their daily activities and routines. They develop key skills in readiness for school and in preparation for their future learning.
