The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment and has formed strong bonds with all children. n The childminder provides regular opportunities for children to socialise with others. For example, they attend weekly toddler groups and go on outings to farms and play parks. n Children enjoy their time at the childminder's home. p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of her role in helping to protect children from possible harm and the procedures to follow should she have concerns about their safety. She ensures that her knowledge is up to date and in line with current guidelines and legislation. For example, she attends training and subscribes to early years websites and forums. The childminder works closely with other local childminders, which enables her to share ideas and gain further knowledge. The childminder monitors and tracks children's development effectively. She has a good knowledge of their current stage of learning and their interests, which she shares with parents, and asks for information about their learning at home. This helps to provide a consistent ongoing assessment of children's learning and development

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children demonstrate high levels of confidence during their play. They are not afraid to try out new things and have a go. The childminder is a good role model, and she praises and motivates children as they play, which helps further develop their confidence to explore. She skilfully follows children's interests and overall provides good extension to their play. For example, children enjoy setting up skittles and knocking them down with a ball. The childminder shows children how to roll the ball, which encourages them to concentrate, and then she asks them to tell her how many have been knocked down. Older children think, and count out the answer confidently. Children enjoy singing songs with their friends and the childminder. They sing confidently and with excitement as they share their favourite songs and take part in the actions.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder meets children's emotional needs well. She has a good understanding of their interests and routines, and understands the importance of working in partnership with parents to ensure that this is kept up to date. Children behave well and as expected for their age. They are learning to share and take turns; the childminder explains why they should share with their friends and praises them enthusiastically when they do. Children are developing their independence skills, for example they wash their hands before eating and feed themselves at mealtimes.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children have made good progress from their starting points and are developing well in preparation for their next stage in learning. They are quick to engage in activities and have good concentration skills. Children enjoy exploring books and often sit with the childminder to read their favourite stories. They listen intently and point to pictures when asked. This helps to prepare their early reading and literacy skills.
