Partnership working between staff and parents is a strength of the service. One social worker told the inspector, ‘I have been impressed. Staff work hard to keep a homely, clean and person-centred environment for the young people. This includes purchasing items for personalising young people’s bedrooms with items of their choice.

Daily handovers and regular reviews of each young person’s risk assessments mean that staff are alert to young people’s changing needs and the current strategies to reduce risk. Staff are skilful in managing young people’s behaviour. Clear and consistent expectations for young people, combined with praise and rewards, create a sense of security and well-being for young people. This means that incidents are low. There have been no physical interventions since the last inspection.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff have access to training, which helps them to understand how to keep young people safe. Recently, funding was made available for three staff members to attend specialist training on the risks of child exploitation.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

When safeguarding concerns have arisen in the home, the registered manager has taken Inspection report children’s home: SC396463 4 prompt action to ensure that young people are safe and that the right agencies are notified in a timely way.

The registered manager is suitably experienced and provides excellent leadership. He is supported by a dedicated deputy manager. This oversight ensures that staff maintain high standards of care for young people. Managers lead a committed, skilled and knowledgeable workforce. The registered manager understands the strengths and areas for development of the home.

Most staff are qualified and have a level 3 diploma in residential childcare. The remaining staff are working towards the award and are still within the regulatory timescale for finishing the qualification.
