The childminder monitors the progress children are making carefully to identify any gaps in learning quickly.

p.3

The childminder creates a bright and welcoming environment. She arranges resources to allow children to access them easily. For instance, when babies point to resources, she moves them all to a lower shelf. Children develop early literacy skills in an enjoyable and creative way. For example, they enjoy finding letters in shaving foam and then match this to a name card. The childminder supports children well to learn the sounds that letters represent and repeats them correctly for children to hear. The childminder helps children to develop a deep enjoyment of stories and books. For instance, children enjoy snuggling on the sofa with the childminder and listen intently to their favourite stories.

p.3

Children have lots of opportunities to develop their independence. For example, children carefully cut grapes in half for their snack and put on their own shoes to go outdoors. The childminder is a good role model and supports children's behaviour well. She is consistent with rules and expectations. Children behave well and use good manners. Children learn good hygiene practices and the childminder provides them with a range of healthy snacks. The childminder supports children to develop new physical skills well. For instance, she encourages babies to practise taking steps, and children use strength and determination to squirt shaving foam from a can.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children progress well from their starting points. Children are confident and eager to learn. Children concentrate for sustained periods and enjoy learning new things.
