p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of potential signs and symptoms of abuse and her duty to prevent children from being drawn into situations which could put them at risk. The childminder ensures her knowledge is current, for example, through regular training and accessing information online. The childminder has a robust safeguarding policy which she would follow if she has any concerns about a child in her care. The premises are safe and secure. The childminder completes regular risk assessments prior to children's arrival and takes swift action to minimise any risk.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder carefully weaves children's interests through planned activities. For instance, after a recent visit to the farm, she provides an assortment of small-world toy animals and buildings. Children laugh with delight as they turn the activity into a hide- and-find the pigs game. The childminder is a confident teacher. She joins in children's games and encourages children to learn as they play. Children count confidently and display age-appropriate mathematical skills, for example, sorting pompoms into colours and then counting them. The childminder has a good understanding of how children develop and where children are in their stage of learning. The childminder meticulously assesses and monitors children's learning. She identifies emerging gaps in children's progression early on and is swift to provide targets to support children's learning further.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment. She offers a gradual settling-in procedure, which is agreed with parents in accordance with their child's needs, to help children feel emotionally secure. Children are provided with opportunities to be active, contributing to their physical health. For example, they regularly walk to local parks, benefiting from exercise and fresh air. The childminder is a positive role model and children behave well. Children are consistently polite and respectful, and use good manners. Children learn about the world around them in a practical way. They actively visit local amenities and attend groups with other childminders. Children are happy in the care of the childminder and they readily engage in conversation with her.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills in readiness to move on to school. They learn to manage their self-care needs independently, for example, blowing their own nose. Children confidently make decisions about their play. They are keen and enthusiastic learners, who persevere with challenges and delight in completing tasks.
