p.1

This provision is good

n Staff are consistent in their approach to behaviour management. They teach children to explain how they feel. Children help their friends to find their comforters when they need a little reassurance. Children behave well. n Staff work closely with teachers at the local schools. They invite teachers in to observe and review the children's stages of development with their key workers. This helps to provide good continuity of care and learning for children when they move to school. n Children are all highly considerate of each other. Those who are more able help others in learning how to use the water jug when they wish to have drink. This helps to support children's personal and social development well. n Parents state, 'My child is progressing really well and is capable of writing a lot of words with thanks to the staff' and, 'All the staff are so friendly and help my child, especially to help them manage their feelings'.

p.1

This provision is good

n Children make good progress with their learning and development. n At times, staff do not encourage children to remove dummies to help them during activities and to respond to questions in order to aid their language development. The more vocal children take over some activities, stopping quieter children from sharing their views. n Staff do not make use of all the tracking and assessment information they have available to them, to rapidly close gaps in groups of children's learning.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed children in the main play areas and garden. n The inspector spoke with the nominated person, manager, staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector gathered the views of the parents. n The inspector sampled documents, including staff suitability and children's files. n The inspector discussed with the nominated person how she maintains good practice.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Leaders and staff have a clear understanding of their roles in keeping children safe. They have a secure understanding of the procedures to follow if they have concerns regarding children's welfare and well-being. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders monitor staff practice well. They highlight areas of strength and what requires improvement. Recent training has helped staff to improve children's reading and writing. At the inspection, children were skilled in writing 'Santa' on their work, sounding out letters as they write.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children benefit from good-quality activities. Staff provide a good level of teaching and make good use of children's next steps, helping to progress their learning further. Staff expertly teach children how to use new equipment. They use descriptive language to help children learn how to use the climbing wall. When children reach the top, they giggle with excitement and eagerly talk with staff about their achievements. Staff match this excitement with praise, building on children's self-esteem and confidence in trying new experiences. Babies thoroughly enjoy developing their problem-solving skills. They also develop their hand-to-eye coordination as they work out how to place shapes into the sorter.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff nurture children's personal and social development well. Children are happy and settled at the nursery. They arrive eager to learn. Staff effectively teach children about the wider world they live in. They support children's learning about different languages and the countries they all come from. Staff work closely with parents to gather their views on the practice in the nursery. Parents suggested that staff carry out language sessions with the children. Leaders acted on this and arranged for French classes. Children show during activities how they have learned key words and count up to 10 in French.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are prepared well for the next steps in their learning and subsequent move to school. Older children greatly benefit from dance classes. They learn how to follow instructions and move in different ways. Children learn how to balance and to jump with both feet together, and learn letter sounds with a bean bag game. Babies thoroughly enjoy developing their language. They sing along to songs while carrying out actions, enhancing their physical development
