This provision is good

n The childminder evaluates the quality of her setting and works to a well-thought-out action plan. This helps her to focus on the areas she feels are key to improving outcomes for children, such as attending behaviour management training to extend her knowledge of suitable strategies to promote good behaviour. n The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's time in her setting. She provides a daily diary and there is quality feedback to parents when they collect their children. Parents comment how well their children have settled and the 'great relationship' they have with the childminder. They are very happy with the standard of care and learning, and know their children are safe and well cared for. n The childminder pays attention to what babies are interested in and joins in with them as they explore various musical instruments. They watch as she taps a xylophone and shakes a pair of maracas. Babies are very quick to copy her and really enjoy the

sounds they are making. n The childminder has a sound knowledge of child development and her precise assessments of children's progress help her to quickly identify any gaps in their development. This helps her to decide where children will benefit from more support to ensure their continued good progress. n The childminder does not consistently promote babies attempts of communication to the highest standard. n The childminder's plans for professional development for herself and her assistant are not yet rigorous enough to raise the quality of provision to exceptional levels.

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of practice and its impact on children's care and learning. n The inspector took account of parents' views n The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation, including training certificates and evidence of suitability checks.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the procedures to implement should she feel a child may be at risk of harm. Her knowledge includes possible signs and symptoms of abuse, neglect, radicalisation and extremism. The childminder checks her home, resources and equipment regularly to ensure that they remain suitable for children. Partnerships with parents is excellent. The childminder is committed to keeping them up to date with everything to do with their children's learning, development and welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's development and what they need to learn next. Parents receive this information on a regular basis along with ways they can continue to promote their children's learning at home. Children are eager and active learners and very interested in what is going on around them. The childminder provides effective learning experiences that help them to understand and respect differences. For example, they learn about the special days and events other people celebrate. Babies pull themselves up on furniture and the childminder places items slightly out of reach to encourage them to take sideward steps. Older children focus on their craft and proudly show off their work.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Babies have a very strong bond with the childminder. They look straight to her for reassurance, such as when they see a new face, and are quickly settled by her presence. The childminder is caring and attentive towards children. She cuddles babies while bottle feeding and knows when they are ready to go to sleep. Older children enjoy sharing their experiences of their day at school. Children understand how to eat healthily, they wash their hands at appropriate times and brush their teeth after eating. Babies enjoy the texture of the toothbrush and the comfort it gives their teething gums.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are successful learners. They learn to be independent, are inquisitive and ask questions. Children enjoy listening to stories and sing along to Christmas songs. Babies show they are interested and turn to watch what older children are doing. Babies are developing their physical skills as they use the tips of their fingers to remove pasta stuck under their sleeve. This takes lots of concentration and shows they have the determination to succeed.
