p.1

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of how to keep children safe and promote their welfare. She regularly updates her training in safeguarding to ensure she knows the correct procedures to follow in the event of concerns. Therefore, the arrangements for safeguarding are effective. She maintains close supervision during play and uses explanation to help children learn about how to keep themselves safe. For example, children eagerly help to tidy toys away when they have finished playing. The childminder remains keen to continue to improve. She is committed to keeping up-to- date through training and she recognises how the increased knowledge and understanding is beneficial to her confidence.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is effective in her teaching. She is skilled in ensuring children can follow their own interests and ideas. She talks to children about what they are doing and makes suggestions for how they can extend their learning. She shows them how things work and asks well-placed questions, always giving time for children to think about what they want to say in response. Children are excited to take part in all the activities. They play imaginative games, pretending to cook with the play food, working together co- operatively and giggling at jokes with the childminder. Children become fully engaged in art and craft activities. They create their own gingerbread characters as part of a seasonal theme planned by the childminder that successfully covers the different areas of learning. For example, through stories and baking. The childminder uses observation and assessment very well to plan activities that help children continue to make progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident and relaxed in the childminder's home. They clearly show that they are familiar with the daily routines. Children's emotional well-being is promoted very well by the childminder. She recognises when children are tired or require a change to the activities. Children approach her for comfort when they are upset and are quickly consoled by her reassurance and cuddles. Children are developing an understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder helps them to be independent with their self-care and they eagerly wash their hands when the childminder says it is close to snack time.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. Children make friendships and learn to show respect and care for one another. These are skills that help to prepare them for their eventual move on to school.
