Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding child protection matters. She is aware of the local procedures that she should follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder recognises the importance of keeping her skills and knowledge up to date and relevant. For instance, she takes part in training and keeps up to date with changes to local procedures. The childminder evaluates her practice well. She uses her good partnerships with parents and other professionals to reflect and make changes that benefit the children. For example, she has recently accessed funding to make her garden more accessible and interesting for the children to play and learn in.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how to meet the different needs of children. She adapts her teaching well to support the children's interests and level of understanding. For example, the childminder helps to develop older children's vocabulary. She introduces more complex words, such as camouflage as they play with winter animals. Younger children enjoy copying, as the childminder names the things that interest them. All children develop good communication and language skills. The childminder interacts well with children. She uses their interests effectively to support their imaginations. For example, older children enjoy being police officers. They pretend to arrest the childminder and excitedly giggle as they consider what she needs to do to be released from jail.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has developed good methods to support children to learn about being healthy. For instance, children are involved in growing and harvesting their own vegetables, and they benefit from daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. The childminder helps children to be sociable and to learn about people from backgrounds different to their own. For instance, she takes children out in the community and they take part in activities and outings with other children. The childminder sets clear and consistent boundaries, and she supports the young children to follow routines.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain the skills that will support them with the next stage of their learning and the eventual move on to school. For instance, the youngest children are motivated and keen to be involved. They spend time focused as they practise threading straws in to containers. Older children develop a love of literacy. They listen carefully as the childminder reads their favourite stories, and they are keen to share their views as they talk about the characters in the story.
