Interim inspection report children’s home: SC489223 1 SC489223 Registered provider: Idem Living Ltd Interim inspection Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This children’s home is operated by a private provider. It is registered for two children but is occupied by one child.
p.1
Judgement at last inspection: good
Enforcement action since last inspection: none
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Since the last inspection, the home has experienced several changes. These changes relate to the management of the home, staffing arrangements and a change in the young person occupying the home. Leaders and managers have made careful and considered decisions and, when serious incidents have occurred, they have responded effectively.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
A new manager has been appointed and has applied to Ofsted to be registered. The current registered manager manages two homes for the company. This was a short-term arrangement while a suitable applicant was appointed. In addition to a manager, a deputy has been appointed and several new members of staff. Leaders and managers have given careful consideration as to how they can improve recruitment and retention and are feeling optimistic about the positive changes that they have made. The manager was very complimentary about her own experience and the support she continues to Interim inspection report children’s home: SC489223 2 receive.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Good attention is being given to ensuring that staff receive suitable training. For example, staff have recently had training in attachment and there is planned training in mental health first aid. Staff are also being supported to achieve a diploma in childcare, and the company has sourced a new training provider to ensure that timescales are met.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Leaders and managers have taken effective action when concerns have been raised about staff conduct. Appropriate referrals have been made to the local authority and in- house disciplinary procedures followed, when appropriate.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff work hard to establish positive relationships with the young people in their care. The previous young person lived in the home for two years and was well supported through some difficult times. The current young person has lived in the home for four months. He told the inspector he ‘likes’ the home and feels it is a ‘good’ home. The manager and staff are aware of the importance of working effectively with the young person to support him to make positive decisions and feel confident about his future when he leaves the children’s home.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Recently, a second young person was admitted to the home, but this placement broke down within a couple of days. There are complex reasons why this happened. Leaders and managers have reflected well and have identified where they can make improvements in their practice to benefit young people in their care in the future.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The physical environment of the home is spacious, comfortable and homely. It was attractively decorated for Christmas. There are plans in place to make the office blend in more with the homely environment, and to make the large garden a more attractive and useable space.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Previous requirements have been addressed and no further requirements were identified at this inspection.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
