This provision is good
n The childminder meets regularly with her co-childminder to reflect on their provision and to plan future improvements. For example, they have worked together to develop a varied menu that offers children a choice of two healthy meals. n The childminder works in close partnership with local schools to establish a consistent approach to managing children's behaviour and to ensure that information is shared to support children's well-being. n Children are settled and confident with the childminder, her assistant and co- childminder with whom they have equally good relationships. n The childminder helps children to develop an awareness of their own safety and uses opportunities to successfully promote their sense of responsibility. For example, on their walk back to the setting after school, children decide that they should cross at the zebra crossing to keep safe. n The childminder does not focus sharply enough on supporting the assistant to be fully

confident about his role and responsibilities, to provide consistent care to the children. n The childminder misses some opportunities to support children to practice their self- help skills, such as pouring drinks and serving themselves their dinner, to build on their sense of achievement.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder and her co-childminder work well as a team to provide a good level of consistent care for all the children who attend. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with safeguarding training and is confident about the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, as well as the actions she would take to protect children. This includes children who may be at risk of extreme views. The childminder is committed to improving the provision even further. For example, she completes a range of online training to increase her knowledge about how she can support children with specific, additional care needs effectively. Parents highly recommend the childminder and say they would not want to send their children anywhere else.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a solid understanding of the needs of the age group she cares for. She knows the children well and provides a range of activities she knows will engage them. For example, children excitedly decorate biscuits with icing and sprinkles to take home. The childminder observes children's play and uses these observations to introduce activities that will support their further development. For instance, she provides coloured pencils and cut out figures to encourage children to practise their developing pencil control.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show they feel secure in the childminder's care. They are excited to see her when she collects them from school and animatedly talk about their day. Children enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the home and make choices about how they want to spend their time. For example, some choose to sit on the sofa with a book and others choose to be more active or creative. Children are very well behaved and clearly understand the house rules. They hang up their coats and place their bags tidily away as soon as they enter the house. The childminder encourages older children to be good role models. They show care and consideration for the younger children and support them to wash their hands and find a seat at the table for dinner. The childminder supports children's good health. They benefit from fresh air and exercise when they walk back from school, and understand why this is good for them.
