Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident in her understanding of child protection procedures and she updates her knowledge to safeguard children. She regularly reviews her risk assessments. Children happily explore in the safety and security of the childminder's home and on outings. The childminder is very keen to build on her existing good knowledge and skills. She reads childcare articles, shares ideas with other childminding colleagues and attends training courses. The childminder puts what she learns into practice. For example, following training, she is keen to develop opportunities for children to use their imaginations and develop creativity outdoors, for example, when building dens.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The enthusiastic childminder provides many worthwhile activities, which are securely linked to children's interests and help to support their next steps in learning. She uses effective teaching skills and children enjoy her playful interactions. Children have plenty of opportunities to develop their good mathematical skills. During a painting activity, the childminder encouraged children to count the paint pots and brushes, identify colours, shapes and size. Children had fun listening to the sounds the paint made as they shook it in the bottles. The childminder introduces many new words to extend children's vocabulary as they play. She helps children to recall events in their home lives and activities they have experienced in her care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have close attachments to the caring childminder and they are very happy and content. Children gain confidence as the childminder praises them for their efforts and achievements. They are physically active through a wide range of experiences and outdoor play opportunities. For example, children enjoy walks in the woods, visit the pet shop, farm and zoo. The childminder encourages children to behave well. She gives gentle reminders when they become excited and run indoors. The childminder teaches children to accept and respect others through the experiences she offers them. For instance, children make divas for Diwali as presents for their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are inquisitive and confident learners, who engage well in activities. Children use their imaginations and act out storylines during role play. They enjoy looking at books and making marks with pencils and chalks, which helps to develop their interest in literacy. Children develop good personal skills. For instance, they learn to feed and dress themselves, select toys and help tidy away their activities. Children gain skills that prepare them well for their next stages in learning, including school.
