This provision is good

n Partnerships with parents and other professionals have a positive impact on children's development. The childminder carefully considers the information she receives from parents and other professionals to identify effective provision plans and learning targets. Children are making good rates of progress in their learning. n Children benefit from the interesting activities and play equipment the childminder plans for them. For example, children thoroughly enjoy the outdoor play area where they role play being chefs and serve foods in the cafe. Children are confident and happy learners. n The childminder focuses on developing children's communication and language skills well. She uses her good questioning skills to encourage older children to share their own ideas and describe what they are doing during play. Younger children babble and imitate the different sounds the childminder makes during play. Children acquire good

communication skills. n The childminder supports children to respect and value the differences between people and communities. For example, children use play equipment and costumes which represent different cultures and religious festivals. Together they discuss and compare their own families and different people who live within the community. Children develop a strong sense of themselves. n The childminder builds positive relationships with children. She is caring and considerate towards them and reinforces positive behaviour well. For example, she encourages children to share play equipment and use their good manners. Children's behaviour is good. n The childminder does not consistently allow younger children enough time to explore the resources and have their own ideas during planned activities. n The childminder does not swiftly identify what training she needs to complete next to improve the quality of her teaching to a consistently higher level.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates she has a secure understanding of the necessary procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder ensures suitability checks are completed for all those who have access to children. Daily checks of the childminder's premises help her to ensure the areas which children access are safe and suitable. The childminder works well with other settings children attend to help provide consistent learning opportunities for children. She uses the information she receives to evaluate her practice and identifies effective activity plans which help to further support children's learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder monitors and tracks children's learning well. She carefully reviews the progress children make in to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder considers and incorporates children's interests in their individual learning plans. She shares key information with parents to help support children's learning at home. The childminder creates a welcoming learning environment for children. For example, children use their impressive imaginations and immerse themselves completely in role play as they dress up in animal costumes and imitate wild animals, for example. Children are outgoing and self-assured. They demonstrate high levels of self-esteem as they confidently use musical instruments and sing nursery rhymes with the childminder. Children develop good mathematical skills as they confidently count train carriages and pieces of train tracks they build during play. Younger children imitate number sounds

from one to five as they count the vehicles they use during play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children learn to value different people from diverse backgrounds. They learn about different religious festivals that others celebrate within their local communities. Children discuss religious celebrations as they make Diwali lamps and Christmas tree decorations, for example. Children regularly access playgroups and education centres with the childminder, where they make new friends. Older children learn new languages as they sing nursery rhymes and count in dual languages. This helps children communicate well with their friends who speak other languages. Children are self-reliant and enjoy completing self-care routines independently. Children benefit from the fresh air and daily exercise they have during outdoor play and on the regular walks to playgroup. Very young children develop good physical skills as they strengthen muscles in their legs and upper body as the childminder assists them with walking.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children demonstrate high levels of self-esteem as they express themselves freely through music and explore different sounds using musical instruments. Children are confident and independent learners. Younger children develop good hand dexterity, coordination and concentration as they use measuring spoons to pour rice and pasta shapes, for example. Children develop the skills they need in preparation for their next stages of learning and eventual move to school. All children, including those who learn English as an additional language, are making good rates of progress.
