Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to protect children from abuse and neglect. She knows to whom she would report any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder understands how to respond to a child protection allegation against an adult in her home. She regularly updates her child protection training. The childminder is well organised and has a range of relevant policies and procedures in place, which she shares with parents. Parental feedback about the childminder is positive. They comment on how well the childminder communicates with them and how she meets the differing needs of their children. The childminder has developed good links with the local school and pre- school that children attend, ensuring a meaningful flow of information about children's needs and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder engages well with children, supporting their communication skills and talking about their day. Children spend time making bracelets out of small rubber bands, showing perseverance as they master the new skill the childminder has taught them. As they sit and copy patterns with beads, children carefully select the colours that they need, occasionally, checking with the childminder that they are making the picture correctly. Children who are tired after a day at school are able to simply relax. When appropriate, the childminder supports children's ongoing areas of development from pre- school and school. For example, as children make Christmas decorations, the childminder encourages children to count how many gems they have used and to practise their cutting skills. She supports older children to practise their spelling homework.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
All children, including those who have only recently started with the childminder, have warm and positive relationships with her. Children confidently move about the childminder's home, selecting the resources that they wish to play with. Children are provided with healthy home-cooked meals and snacks and reminded to wash their hands before they eat. The childminder understands the dietary needs of children in her care and ensures they are catered for. Children have regular opportunities to be physically active as they make use of the school playground. They use the climbing equipment or play games of football. Children show compassion to each other and play well together. As they play with board games, children learn to take turns and share.
