Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has robust policies and procedures to keep children safe and well. She is confident in describing the signs that may cause her to be worried about a child's welfare and the actions she would take in these circumstances. The childminder recognises the importance of professional development. She develops her skills effectively, such as through attending training, to help provide children with good-quality care and experiences. She works closely with other settings that children also attend. There are very effective processes in place to ensure consistency and continuity in children's care and learning with these settings. The childminder knows where to seek support if she is concerned about a child's development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well and skilfully adapts activities to suit their individual needs and stages of learning. Children are keen to use their problem-solving skills and competently turn puzzle pieces around to fit into the correct space. The childminder supports children's early mathematical skills effectively. For example, she helps children to count with increasing confidence as they play snakes and ladders and match the dice to the number of boxes. The childminder helps children to develop early literacy skills. For instance, children enjoy recognising and sounding out the letters in their name.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder maintains a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment. She has accurate expectations of children and supports them effectively to try new things. This helps children develop their independence as they play. She teaches children to help her with tasks, such as tidying away their toys. Children have many opportunities to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they know that they need to wash their hands at appropriate times. Children practise and challenge their physical skills on outings to the local parks and woodlands. The childminder takes children out into the local community, and they learn about people who are different from themselves. She teaches children to respect other people and to socialise in groups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop good skills that prepare them for the move on to their next stage of learning, such as school. For example, children learn about colours and shapes, and make intended marks in preparation for early writing. They listen well to instructions and learn to concentrate. Children develop an understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For instance, they learn to walk up and down steps safely, and learn about effective road safety. The childminder sets consistent boundaries and children behave well. They are polite and use their manners well.
