This provision is inadequate
n The childminder does not follow her safeguarding policies and procedures and report concerns about children's safety to the relevant agencies in a timely way. She does not hold correct contact details for these agencies. This significantly compromises children's welfare. n The childminder does not have a sufficient understanding of her role and responsibilities with regard to child protection. She does not know the procedure to follow if an allegation is made against herself or anyone living or working on the premises. n The childminder has not minimised risks to children's safety. She does not ensure that the premises are secure at all times. n The childminder has not ensured that her assistant has a secure knowledge and understanding of up-to-date safeguarding issues, including the 'Prevent' duty. n The childminder does not consistently make good use of her assessments of children to plan challenging and stimulating play experiences for them. As a result, children do not

p.1
It has the following strengths

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date improve the use of assessments of children's learning to inform the planning of activities that stretch and challenge the mathematical understanding of those children capable of learning even more. 04/01/2019

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. Despite completing safeguarding training and recognising when a child may be at risk of harm, the childminder failed to inform relevant agencies of child protection concerns in a prompt manner. The childminder does not have the up- to-date contact details for the relevant agencies. She does not know the correct procedures to follow in the event of an allegation of abuse made against herself, her assistant or a member of the household. The childminder does not maintain a safe environment for children. She leaves the entrance unsecured which means that uninvited people may be able to enter her home. She has not made sure that her assistant understands her responsibilities with regard to protecting children against being exposed to extreme views and behaviours. These breaches put children at significant risk of further harm. The childminder supervises her assistant. She has ensured that her

assistant has completed paediatric first-aid training. The childminder has carried out some evaluation of her practice. However, this has not been effective in identifying key weaknesses of the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder observes children in their play and uses these observations to recognise children's achievements, overall. Children enjoy interacting with the childminder and her assistant and some of these interactions support them in thinking further. For example, children make good attempts to work out how to thread beads on to string. However, while the childminder's and assistant's interactions are suitable, planned activities do not provide children with sufficient challenge. For example, they do not stretch the mathematical learning of children who are clearly ready to learn even more. At times, the childminder and assistant miss opportunities to extend children's independence and self-help skills. They do pose some questions to encourage children to use their developing speech and language skills. Partnerships with parents are appropriate. The childminder tells them about what their child has enjoyed so that they can continue with
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Significant weaknesses in leadership and management place children at risk and compromise their safety and welfare. When children first begin attending, the childminder gathers relevant and useful information to help them settle in. The childminder and her assistant are kind and caring towards the children. They give them comfort and ensure that they meet their personal care needs. The childminder provides children with suitable guidance about her expectations for their behaviour. She encourages good manners and teaches children to share and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Planning and teaching is not sufficiently well focused to help every child reach their full potential. Despite this, children are confident and generally enjoy their play. Children develop some of the skills they need to be ready for school. For example, children develop their social skills as they mix with other children at playgroup.
