Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of child protection and is extremely vigilant in keeping children safe. She knows the potential signs and symptoms and how to report any possible concerns. She uses regular and concise risk assessments to maintain the safety of the environment. The childminder uses an effective system when monitoring the children's progress. This enables her to spot any gaps in their learning quickly and provide them with additional support if necessary. She works closely with parents, involving them in their child's learning and development. Parents speak highly of the childminder, commenting on the excellent care she provides and that their children make good progress because of the high-quality teaching she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is an excellent communicator and offers the children many opportunities to develop their language skills, such as asking them for their opinions on what they would like to do next and engaging in meaningful conversation with them. The quality of the childminder's teaching is extremely strong. She has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how to promote learning and development, and knows how to interlink activities into all areas of the curriculum. For example, during a shopping role-play activity, the childminder used this as an opportunity to encourage children to examine the different numbers on the money that they were using and to count how many coins they had. The childminder monitors children's learning closely to ensure they all make good progress in their development, relative to their starting points. She uses these starting points with success to aid her planning and tracking of children's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are incredibly happy, calm and secure. They feel welcomed and valued, and the childminder frequently praises their efforts and shows a deep interest in them. The childminder creates a welcoming and interesting environment and provides the children with many opportunities to explore and discover in their own ways. She is passionate about helping children to become independent learners and regularly asks them what activities they would like to do next and encourages them to choose their own snacks. Children understand that before moving on to a different activity, they are responsible for tidying up what they are currently playing with. Children are regularly met with a big smile and a 'high five' from the childminder when they do things for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and enthusiastic learners. They show concentration for sustained lengths of time in activities that interest them. They are developing good communication skills, given their starting points. Children are well prepared for future learning, including the move on to school.
