Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder uses her qualification exceptionally well to offer her assistants highly effective supervision. She conscientiously reviews her practice to identify even further improvements. She has recognised that she can offer children even more opportunities that support them in understanding how exercise affects their bodies. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of this area and fully understands the issues that may threaten children's welfare, such as the risks posed by extreme practices and views. She ensures that her assistants also have the same thorough understanding. The childminder works exceptionally well with other childcare professionals and settings. She exchanges practical, detailed information with them helping to ensure that children's learning is promoted to the maximum.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder competently enables children to develop their play and skilfully supports them in building on this. For example, children choose to play with water. They note that a large, empty container floats on the water. The childminder offers them additional resources and they are intrigued as they put stones, shells and wood into the water and note which items sink. They become absorbed as they experiment independently by putting the same items into the container and note that this makes them float. They competently determine at what point the heavy stones make the container sink. Opportunities such as this support children in exploring, predicting, working together and finding the answers to their own questions. The childminder makes resources and uses these as a way of supporting children's specific learning needs. For instance, young children develop their vocabulary and early reading skills as they eagerly use exciting
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder maintains excellent partnerships with parents. She is exceptionally aware of children's emotional well-being and continuously considers this. She shows children that she is genuinely interested and truly values their contributions, helping to promote their confidence and self-esteem. Children competently discuss their feelings and demonstrate a mature understanding of the effects of their behaviour. Their excellent social skills and highly positive emotional attitudes aid their ability to quickly adapt to new situations, such as starting school. Children develop excellent physical skills and learn about safety. For example, they place planks of wood on different gradients, thoughtfully assessing the risks and carefully balancing as they negotiate the planks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make exceptional progress and rapidly develop the skills that support them at school. They quickly become independent learners and demonstrate high levels of curiosity. For example, young children explore with torches and experiment by shining these on a clock and stating each number as they highlight it. They put coloured discs over the torches and note how these change the colour of numbers on the clock. They experiment further and note that the light does not travel through solid objects.
