She regularly includes singing and stories in her daily activities and also provides a varied range of outings. n Parents and carers praise how well the childminder includes their children so that they become part of her family. Children develop a very good bond with the childminder and her family members. n Overall, the childminder has very good partnerships with parents and carers. She involves them in their children's learning from the very beginning. n strengthen the programme of professional development to focus more specifically on how this will benefit children's care, learning and development n strengthen the systems to evaluate practice and actively seek detailed feedback from parents and carers to inform future improvements, and secure the best possible outcomes for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed several different training courses to develop and refresh her knowledge of child protection issues. She can describe how she would appropriately manage child protection concerns to safeguard children. The childminder is vigilant in her risk assessments to ensure that the premises are safe and secure for younger children. The childminder employs an assistant that she works with on a very occasional basis. She takes appropriate steps to ensure that the assistant is suitable for their role. The childminder monitors children's progress and uses this information well to identify and support what children need to learn next.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's interactions with children are good. She encourages children to lead their own play and joins in well to support their learning. For example, as younger children play with stacking cups, she introduces counting. The childminder encourages children to explore how to separate the cups. After giving children plenty of opportunity to experiment, the childminder demonstrates how to do this. As the childminder reads stories she provides effective support for children's learning. For example, she speaks slowly and clearly to support children's language development. The childminder encourages children to look at the pictures and guides them to attempt to turn the page.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder continually shares information with parents and carers about children's needs and routines, to ensure that they are consistently met. She is very sensitive when attending to children's personal care, for example, wiping their nose. The childminder explains to children what she is about to do. From a very young age, children stop what they are doing and assist with the task. The childminder provides good levels of distraction when children are becoming tired. She provides appropriate support to prepare children for their transition on to other settings. The childminder begins this at an early age so that children develop confidence in different social situations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good levels of social skills and interact well with others. They sustain their engagement well in their play and activities. Children show high levels of curiosity and enjoy exploring and investigating the toys. They join in with the actions to familiar songs. Children enjoy listening to stories and show good levels of attention. They are developing the skills they need for their future learning.
