Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder ensures that her knowledge about how to protect children is current. She attends regular safeguarding training and continually reads related articles. The childminder is aware of the signs that may make her concerned and her responsibility to protect children from extreme views. She knows the procedures to follow if she has any concerns. Since registration, the childminder has continued to increase her knowledge through training about children's care and learning. This has had a positive impact on the childminder's understanding about how to support and extend children's language skills. She maintains and implements policies and procedures to support children's needs and to ensure a safe environment for them.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children have fun with the attentive childminder. She joins in with their play and engages them in discussions about what they have chosen to do. For instance, children enjoy buying items from their pretend shop. She helps increase younger children's language and introduces new words which they copy. The childminder uses probing questions to help older children to extend their vocabulary. She provides clear guidance about how to use different equipment, such as colouring pens, painting mats and brushes. The childminder praises children for their efforts and discusses with them the drawings that they create. This promotes their self-esteem. The childminder closely checks the progress of children. She shares children's achievements with parents and together they discuss the next steps in their children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model. She has a very calm personality and she provides children with consistent messages to help them learn how to respect each other. This helps them to behave well. She works closely with parents to ensure that children's changing needs, such as dietary requirements and sleeping habits, are followed effectively. The childminder encourages children to develop independence and to have good manners. She ensures that they gain a good understanding of the local community. They visit the library and attend social groups. The childminder supports children's physical skills; they dig in the garden, ride bicycles and visit parks with challenging play equipment. The childminder teaches children safe practices, such as when they go to and from nursery and when they go on outings.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for their future learning, including their eventual move on to school. Older children are inquisitive learners; they are confident and show good levels of independence. Younger children are learning how to take turns during their play. They concentrate well on activities that interest them. All children use their imaginations as they recreate the sequence of popular stories. They confidently use pens, pencils and paintbrushes to draw and colour to support their early writing.
