Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of how to recognise signs of any potential abuse. She knows what procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder completes risk assessments of her home, garden and activities, and reviews these regularly to help minimise any risks. She supports children to learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, all children practise the emergency evacuation procedures. The childminder collects the views of parents and children to inform reflections on the quality of her provision and before planning any changes. Parents say that children ask to visit the childminder's house and are reluctant to leave.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children's needs and interests well. She gives clear explanations and demonstrations to help children to develop their understanding and skills. The childminder expertly uses questioning to engage children in conversations about topics that interest them. Children talk about their day at nursery or school while they enjoy a home-cooked, nutritious meal. They practise their early mathematical skills, such as when they make three-dimensional shapes using dry spaghetti and marshmallows. The childminder encourages children to solve problems for themselves. For example, she asks children to work out how many more pieces of pasta they will need to finish their model.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides tailored settling-in sessions to help children feel at home from the start. She collects information from parents about children's likes and dislikes and their care needs, including dietary requirements. Children of all ages are regularly involved in decision making and show a strong sense of belonging in the childminder's home. For example, the childminder asks children to suggest ideas for activities and then plans to put these into action wherever possible. This helps to build children's confidence and self-esteem. Children independently access resources and can choose to relax while reading a book or playing a game. They follow good hygiene routines, including washing their hands thoroughly before meals. Children enjoy their time together and make friends across the age groups. Older children eagerly help younger ones with everyday tasks.
